It is soothing to the skin, anti-allergenic, anti inflammatory, antiseptic, bactericidal, mild sedative. This gentle oil can be used for treating children's ailments. Chamomile calms the nervous system and eases headaches, irritability and nervousness, promotes sleep.

It is particularly effective for treating allergies, itchy skin, eczema, acne, dermatitis and inflamed skin conditions. Helps to relieve PMS and regulate periods.It stimulates white blood cell production and boosts the immune system: good for trating viruses or infections.

The oil has a fresh grassy smell with a fruity undertone and is extracted from the flowerheads by steam distillation. German chamomile is an annual herb, with long, erect stems that grow two to three feet tall.

Roman chamomile ( Chamaemelum nobile or Anthemis nobilis) a creeping perennial herb that grows close to the ground, up to a foot in length.

The flower of the Roman Chamomile is characterized by a flattened receptacle, which distinguishes it from the dome-shaped receptacle of the German variety. A sure way to differentiate between the two varieties is to slice open the receptacle of each one. German chamomile has a hollow receptacle, while that of Roman chamomile is solid.

While the medicinal applications of both varieties parallel each other, German chamomile considered more potent and medically superior to Roman chamomile. It contains a higher proportion of chamazulene, an active chemical constituent. This compound is a potent anti-inflammatory that has proven highly effective as an herbal remedy for conditions such as arthritis, rheumatism and gastritis. Roman chamomile has little chamazulene, and thus has gentler anti-inflammatory properties. It also has a higher alcohol content than its German counterpart.
